The company has acquired, from GlaxoSmithKline, the worldwide development rights to two compounds, tonabersat and sabcomeline.
Tonabersat is the most advanced compound in an exciting new selective class of drugs called neuronal gap junction blockers, which have significant potential in the prevention of migraine and probably also in other neurological indications. Sabcomeline, a muscarinic receptor partial agonist, has potential in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia. Both compounds benefit from substantial historic investment by GSK resulting in an exceptional safety database.
Tonabersat has completed a Phase IIa trial in prophylaxis (prevention) of migraine. Positive data from this study indicate that tonabersat is likely to prove a significant advance in the management of migraine. The Company is currently undertaking a phase IIb study in 500 patients in the US and Canada. Minster will be seeking a partner to register the compound.
Sabcomeline has completed exploratory trials in schizophrenia. Minster is working with leading US advisers to develop a program to define the role of sabcomeline in the management of schizophrenia.
